Questions & Answers
What would you like to know?
Getting Started
Do I need a referral to access RM Therapy?
No — you don't need a referral to contact us. You can get in touch directly or refer yourself for private services.
Some funding pathways do require additional paperwork. Medicare-funded psychology sessions, for example, generally require a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. If you're unsure what applies to your situation, just ask and we'll work it out with you.
How do I make a referral?
Most referrals come from a guardian, support coordinator or plan manager rather than the person receiving support — but you're equally welcome to refer yourself.
Visit our referral page and choose the form that matches how the support will be funded. Share what you can about needs, goals and preferences so we can understand how best to help. If you're not sure which form to use, just ask us.
Which service is right for me or my family?
You don't need to have it all worked out before you contact us. Tell us what's happening, what matters to you and what you'd like support with. We'll explain the options in plain language and help you choose a next step that feels appropriate.
If you'd rather talk it through first, you're welcome to book a discovery session with our team.
Does RM Therapy support children and adults?
Yes. We work with children, adolescents, adults and families. We'll take the time to understand the person's needs, strengths, communication preferences and goals, then talk openly about whether our service and available clinicians are the right fit.
Appointments
What happens after I submit a referral?
We'll review what you've shared and aim to contact you within 1–2 business days about availability and next steps.
If we need more information, we'll explain why and ask only for what helps us understand your goals, preferences, circumstances or funding.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is a conversation, not a test. Your clinician will listen to what has brought you in, learn about your strengths, priorities and goals, and explain possible ways of working together. You can ask questions, share what helps you feel comfortable and decide what you'd like to work towards.
Are Telehealth appointments available?
Telehealth is available for some services and appointments. We'll consider the type of support you're seeking, what works best for you and clinician availability, then discuss whether telehealth is a comfortable and practical option.
How do I reschedule or cancel an appointment?
Contact us as soon as you can and we'll help you find another time. We'll explain any cancellation terms clearly when your appointment is arranged, so you know what to expect from the beginning.
Fees & Funding
Can RM Therapy services be funded through the NDIS?
Yes — Behaviour Support, Speech Pathology and Psychology can be funded through the NDIS where they align with your plan and funding arrangements. [CONFIRM SERVICE LIST]
Share your relevant plan details with us and we'll talk you through what may be available before you commit to starting.
Do you work with different types of NDIS plan management?
We work with self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed participants for eligible services. Include your plan management and funding details in your referral, and we'll confirm the arrangements with you in clear terms.
Can I receive a Medicare rebate?
A Medicare rebate may apply to eligible sessions with a registered psychologist if you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. Contact us before booking and we'll help you confirm what applies, including the expected out-of-pocket cost.
How will I know the cost of my appointments?
We'll explain the fees, funding arrangements and relevant terms before your first appointment, so there are no unnecessary surprises. Because fees and government rebates can change, we'll confirm the current amounts when you book.
Privacy & Support
Will my information be kept private?
We treat your personal information with care and handle it in line with our privacy responsibilities and policies. Your clinician will explain confidentiality, including its limits, at the beginning of your service and answer any questions you have.
Can parents, carers or support people be involved?
Yes — if you want them involved and the appropriate consent is in place. Parents, carers, support workers, educators and other professionals can be part of the process where it helps. We'll talk with you about who is involved and respect your preferences.
What if I need communication or accessibility support?
Please tell us about any communication, sensory, mobility, cultural or accessibility needs when you make a referral. You know what helps you participate comfortably, and we'll work with you on reasonable adjustments wherever possible.
What should I do if I need urgent help?
RM Therapy is not an emergency service. If you or another person is in immediate danger, call 000. For urgent mental health support, contact an appropriate crisis service or attend the nearest emergency department.
